2019 Jeep Cherokee vs 2019 Toyota RAV4 near Charleston, SC

For the longest time, Jeep and Toyota have been at war with one another to see who truly has the best SUV. And in 2019 they are back at it again with the newest version of their signature Cherokee and RAV4 models. With all of the hype surrounding these two SUV’s, we have taken it upon ourselves to break down both of them to see which one truly comes out on top. Read on to see our comparison of these two legendary vehicles!

2019 Jeep Cherokee Power & Handling

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee has three different engines. First is the standard 2.4-liter 4-cylinder that provides 180 horsepower and 171 lb-ft of torque. While an option of a 3.2-liter V6 with 271 horsepower and 239 lb-ft of torque is available, and a new this year is the option of a potent 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder with 270 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque. All engines come connected with a 9-speed automatic transmission that provides a smooth ride, and all-wheel drive is available with all three engines depending on which model you choose. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee can also tow 4,000 pounds with the turbocharged 4-cylinder and 4,500 pounds with the V6.

2019 Toyota RAV4 Power & Handling

The Toyota RAV4 provides just one engine, a 2.5-liter with 203 horsepower mated with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Fuel economy is undoubtedly an improvement over last year’s model, but the RAV4 towing ability is limited, being only able to tow 1,500 pounds. Also, while the engine is sufficient, the RAV4 does not have the upgradeable options like its competitors.

2019 Jeep Cherokee Features & Design

The 2019 Jeep Cherokee comes in five primary trim levels each with a ton of excellent features. The base-level Latitude includes 17-inch wheels, automatic xenon headlights, heated side mirrors, a folding front passenger seat with a storage compartment inside the seat cushion, and a new 7-inch touchscreen and a six-speaker audio system. Andriod Auto and Apple CarPlay are also standard across all trim levels. At the Latitude Plus trim you get features such features as keyless ignition and entry, leather inserts in the upholstery, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob. Passive keyless entry is standard as is push-button starting. The Latitude Plus includes a Comfort and Convenience package, which adds an auxiliary household power outlet, dual-zone climate control, and a power liftgate. The next level Limited provides Latitude’s Comfort and Convenience Package while adding 18-inch wheels, blind-spot monitoring, and rear cross-traffic alert, leather upholstery, and an upgraded 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. If you go up a level to the range-topping Overland, you will get exterior features like cornering lights, sound-deading windshield, and front windows. While the interior includes driver-seat memory functions, a leather-wrapped instrument panel, ventilated front seats, sliding rear seat, and a nine-speaker audio system with a navigation system and HD radio. And finally, the off-road-themed Trailhawk comes with an all-wheel-drive-system, 17-inch wheel with all-terrain tires, increased ground clearance, off-road-oriented suspension tuning, and hill ascent and descent control.

2019 Toyota RAV4 Features & Design

The 2019 RAV4 also provides five different trim levels and gives you such options as LED headlights, heated mirrors, push-button start, and simulated leather upholstery. At its base-trim level LE, Toyota also provides a safety package called Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which offers advanced safety features such as forward-collision warning and automatic emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, and adaptive cruise control. We have to admit that this is a beautiful feature, but the Jeep Cherokee also provides the features while adding Rear Park Assist and back up camera to its lineup as standard, but these are only available as options on the RAV4’s higher trim levels. The top-level Adventure also offers some excellent features such as all-weather floor mats and an upgraded rearview camera. Unlike the Jeep Cherokee, it does not provide any specific off-road capable equipment.

Conclusions

Both vehicles have their merits, but in the end, we are going to give the edge to the 2019 Jeep Cherokee. It’s five available trim levels have tons of options, and the three available engines provide consumers of their choice of power. Also, the Cherokee is the perfect off-road vehicle and provides you with all the options necessary to make the experience off the road as good as it is on the road.
